Heated Vinyasa Flow Yoga ~ Deep Stretch ~ Gentle Yoga ~ Restorative ~ Kids

"Alignment means agreement." Donna Farhi

BEGINNER

Technique 1 ~ Alignment basics in a slower paced flow class, longer holds in poses. Cultivate strength in your legs and core, we'll start with Sun Salutations, standing & balancing poses, then move to the floor for seated or reclining poses. This class will help you open up areas of tension such as shoulders, low back & hips, always with safety and a lot of attention from your teacher. You'll learn basic breathing techniques, and be with like minded people who are also newer to yoga or who simply enjoy this slower paced class.

"Alignment is more than just muscles & bones or attaining some sort of physical perfection; alignment is connecting with your breath, aligning or connecting your higher self, then notice how connecting with others gets easier.  Yoga can change your life.  Ignore alignment in your practice and you are missing an opportunity to practice true yoga ~ becoming a better friend to yourself, to others, to the world."  Sandy Gross

INTERMEDIATE

Technique 2 ~ Moderately paced vinyasa flow with more intermediate poses. It's here you get to take time to "workshop" several poses in every class, use the walls, props, and sometimes partners to help deepen your understanding of the poses. Get better at inversions too—headstand, handstand and arm balances. Come build your confidence with some of the best teachers around!  Some of these classes take place in our smaller yoga room, and you get lots of attention from your teacher. Reservations recommended.

‎"Alignment of the body in the poses is compassion in action." Judith Lasater.

Practice 1 ~ This class is for you if you are ready for more flow in your practice. Learn as you go with the guidance, concise cues, and hands-on assists of the teacher. Expect to sweat a little or a lot, depending on how you manage your body heat, and enjoy smart, creative & fun sequencing, including inversion practice. Not sure if you're ready for an intermediate level class? If beginner classes are not challenging you, then give it a try!  Technique 2 classes are similar in level of challenge, but has less "flow" to them and more technique offered.

JessicaFOLD.jpgADVANCED

Practice 2 ~ You do NOT need to be advanced to come to a P2 class! Here is where you work on the stamina to do longer headstands and shoulder stands, discover more ways to bend backward, continue exploring inversions, arm balances, bindings, and deep twists, and experience the sweaty aliveness of asana practice. This level is right for you if you have already received basic instruction in inversions and arm balances and are ready to learn more.

"I don't struggle with anything in yoga. That doesn't mean I can do every pose -- it just means I don't struggle. I don't feel like struggling in yoga. I'm long over that phase by now. I have enough really challenging stuff to deal with in my life and when I'm on my mat, it's my time to feel whole and to connect with my basic goodness. I like to be friendly in my practice." Cyndi Lee

ALL LEVELS

Deep Stretch ~ A heated practice (85 degrees) that flows slower than our other vinyasa classes (balancing external & internal heat) and set to more downtempo music. Emphasis will be on deeper breathing & meditation while stimulating circulation in less flexible areas such as the shoulders, hips, lower back and sacrum. You will feel like your whole spine just got unleashed & unwound! This practice compliments all other activity, in addition to our more active vinyasa classes. Also, a good place to start if you are new to yoga and looking for a heated yoga flow practice. Towel recommended.

Sweaty Express ~ A one hour vinyasa flow class that keeps moving. Detox mind, body and soul, burn calories and strengthen your heart. All levels welcome. Expect influences from the yoga methods that our experienced teachers teach: OM yoga, Jivamukti, Vinyasa, etc.

Pilates ~ Join us for this 50 minute class focusing on "core" exercises: flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation of the spine performed on a mat. Bring a towel for sweat. A combination of basic, intermediate, and advanced exercises will be offered as we develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and mental awareness.

CarrieTorso.jpgSculpting Yoga/Pilates Fusion ~ This class starts with a vinyasa yoga warm up followed by sculpting moves with free weights intertwined with cardio intervals done to upbeat & fun music. This class will build muscular strength, promote muscular balance, cardiovascular strength & endurance and flexibility. Class also includes additional core work and Pilates moves and ends with a final relaxation segment. Weighted, streamlined bars, soft dumbbells and resistance bands are provided. Some experience with yoga preferred but not required. Bring a towel to mop up the sweat!

Gentle Yoga ~ All Levels ~  A soft, nurturing class for those who want to slow down and let go.  Develop body awareness with deep breathing, gentle stretches and fluid movements with less weight bearing on the joints.  Also great for beginners, pre/post-natal, those with physical limitations or injuries and those under extreme stress.

Restorative Yoga ~ Learning to relax is at the heart of living well and this class is an antidote to stress because it promotes deep relaxation. We’ll use props like blankets, bolsters and sandbags to put the body into extremely comfortable and supported positions. Then, much like meditation or asana class, the attention rests on the breath. Each class will include subtle backbends, forward bends and twists, to promote healthy spines, as well as inversions to reverse the fluids in the body, enhancing the functions of the heart. This setting provides the perfect environment to truly relax & rejuvenate. Recommended for beginners and those seeking a very gentle yoga practice.

Sensible Sweat
Our rooms are heated in between 78–85 degrees, supportively warm (not stifling) to preserve the internal and most authentic, deep heat built during the practice. Our air filtration system is used frequently so that you can breathe deep & free!

Physical yoga is a cleansing practice, or “kriya”, in Sanskrit, and proper hydration is the key to optimizing this process. Modern medicine agrees, cleansing happens inside your body, not through sweat, a common misperception. Only trace elements of toxins are released through sweat. So drink up approximately 1–2 hours prior to class (to avoid bathroom breaks during class;), ideally water or any fluid w/o caffeine. We recommend you don't drink water during class in order to preserve the internal fire, or “agni”, nor disturb your focus. For more on the topic of sensible sweat, cleansing, heat & yoga, click here.

Feel free to bring in an empty water bottle for last minute hydrating or fill it up with our bottled spring water for $1 after class.
