The Evolution of
Evolution Yoga
Cleveland's first vinyasa yoga studio was founded in 1999 in a rented room at The Hampton's apartments in Beachwood by Sandy Gross, a local personal trainer & yoga teacher. (soon after joined by Tami Schneider and later, renamed to Cleveland Yoga). They attended Baron Baptiste's bootcamps, grew quickly from a few classes to several, and inspired their fitness students to become budding yogis.
She sold her half of the partnership to Tami in 2003 and built the first Evolution Yoga, and later relocated to Eton in 2006. Many other vinyasa studios have come about in town, connected to these early roots.
Sandy's main interest to this day, has always been to explore a variety of styles of vinyasa yoga & beyond and to have Evolution reflect that diversity. Part of that vision was to invite her favorite teachers to town so that her community of students could grow with her. Since 2003, Sandy has hosted many of todays top teachers monthly and put North East Ohio and Evolution Yoga on the Midwest map as a nucleus for teachers & students alike to learn and grow.

Because Evolution's main focus is producing workshops, teacher trainings and offering continuing education to the yoga community at large, their daily teaching staff has evolved into being the area's largest collective of experienced teachers around. From internationally known methods of yoga: OM yoga to Jivamukti Yoga to Yoga Works to locally trained teachers, and mentored by Evolution's senior teaching staff on an ongoing basis.
Yoga isn't a noun, it is a verb. It suggests process, not a product. Our name represents the movement that is withinin us, every day, every moment, you can feel in in every breath. Come live the journey with us. And please let us know how can we be helpful to you.
Namaste~
"Tradition is important just as history is important; not as a vice to squeeze the present into, but as a stepping stone from which to evolve." Joel Kramer, yoga legend, author, self taught yoga student.
